Rogue Bane Arellia Son Book 1 edition by Rick Ferraro Literature Fiction eBooks
Rogue's Bane is a fast paced, action oriented novel about a village boy seeking vengeance for his decimated village of Arellia. Having lived a sheltered life, Talin goes out in the world to seek help and to warn others about the fate of his village. The thing that really struck me was the way the main character developed over the course of the novel. From an innocent boy who loves hunting in the woods, Talin learned to deal with hardened criminals and devious scoundrels while staying alive. The novel has a lot more action than expected, and the scenes are extremely intense.
Rogue's Bane is a fantastic novel, and highly recommended.

Rogue Bane Arellia Son Book 1 edition by Rick Ferraro Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I read a lot of different fantasy books and have been spending my time now just looking for older material I missed before and checking out material by new authors. With that I have to say that Rogue's Bane is really not very good. I had to force myself to finish the book. The story moves so slowly and as for the character development-- well the further I read the less I cared. The characters actions were unbelievable for the most part. This book might be okay for pre-teens but I definitely would not recommend it for anyone older.
I thought this book could have been great, but lack of good character development and believable dialog killed it for me.
I liked the plot and I liked the characters (what I knew of them), but I kept feeling like the book was on the cusp of being really good but just didn't get it done.
The main characters did and said things that made me think "Why did he/she say/do that!".
Overall I was disappointed with the book, but it was promising enough that I would probably still read the author's next product.
I'm sorry but I just couldnt read this book. I stopped after only a short portion because the main character is just to hard to believe. He is an expert shot with the bow yet he never shoots at any of the attackers of his village? In stead he grabs a sword be can barely use runs in nearly gets killed and is saved buy a guard that he and the guard captain had to carry back to the village? Seriously? Then after he rides away and gets to Inn in the middle of nowhere instead of telling the patrons of the in of the attack on his village he decides to sit down and order a meal....Of course he does tell one person the pretty adventure who starts talking to him out of the blue then decides hey I will join her....Come on man someone who only lived in a village their entire lives who just had everything they knewand loved wouldn't be this stupid and if they were then they should have dies with the rest of the villagers. I rarely right reviews and I have never written a bad one before but this was just to much...
As someone who finds the fantasy book genre to be quite cliché the majority of the time, "Rogue's Bane" was a breath of fresh air for me to read. The plot is thought out, well written and stimulates the brain to create a vibrant, visual look on the realm the story takes place in. The characters actually come to life and have a presence to them that you can get emotionally attached to which makes this book even harder to put down. Bottom line, if you're a newbie to the fantasy genre or a jaded, burned out fantasy junkie; give this one a try! You won't be sorry!
I have read about half of this book and I am considering not completing it. Its not a new book but still ...
On the good side, I suppose it can be considered imaginative, but reading it is spoiled by the following
1) The formatting is appalling, in the edition, with many blank pages between chapters and every paragraph indented ten points. I would guess the book never had the benefit of proficient editing. The basics of written dialog format are absent throughout. For example on location 3705, quote "So money is their motive?" Asked (sic) Talin. Surely, 'asked' should not be capitalized.
4) A substantial number of words are used wrongly. For example on location 3582, quote "I wretched (sic) at the sight that my eyes beheld." This word is not a verb, but an adjective. Also there is confusion between it's and its.
5) Character development is thin and uneven. Furthermore, the characters say things that leave me confused, wondering why it was said.
6) The plot develops far too slowly although it seems to be picking up.
I recommend that this book be thoroughly reviewed and edited, and re-released.
I don't normally review items on but I wanted to make an exception and give a first time author his due.
This book was pretty well done from beginning to end. One reviewer mentioned that there wasn't much character development and I couldn't disagree more. The point of the story is to see how Talin especially is ripped from a comfortable and ignorant existence, and how he grows and copes with that through his adventure. Any person in real life who has gone through what he did is going to change, grow, and develop into something more by the end, that's life! That what makes a good story!
I also enjoyed some of the fantasy tropes being different. It's nice that the elves are long gone, the dwarves aren't just a Scottish photo copy of all other fantasy, and that creative creatures and monsters are used rather than just "Goblin, Troll, Orc, etc". Even Dragons (although there aren't any in this book, sorry) are given a brief blurb on how they came to be and what kind of creature they were, and were different. It's about time a fantasy author started doing that!
My only complaint is that the book does end on kind of a cliff hanger, but as long as future books are as good that's fine with me!
